Zophobas morio, or superworm beetles, are a species of darkling beetles whose larvae are superworms. These are ideal for someone who is looking to start their own colony of superworms. You will receive un-sexed beetles that are around one week old. They live 3-4 months and females will lay up to 500 eggs throughout their lives. These eggs will eventually hatch into very small superworms which can be grown up and used as feeders. Our beetles and superworms are fed a diet of wheat bran and fresh fruits and veggies such as pototoes and apples.
Superworm beetles are very sensitive and die easily so be sure to be gentle and take good care of them. Keep them between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. You can either remove the bedding (wheat bran) from the beetles every 1-3 weeks to raise the baby superworms separately or leave it in to grow with them. We choose to swap bedding out every few weeks so that there is less competition for food and so that the beetles won't eat the eggs or baby worms.
